Hello! USA Promotional Video

I recently found this awesome video which I somehow never got around to posting.

This was the promotional video that was created by Push to showcase the redesign of the Hello! USA app, showing how it would be used, and introducing the new functionality that was added.

Hello! USA – v 2.0

After a successful product launch and an extended period of time in use by their sales team, the folks at Hello! Destination Management wanted to refresh their application.

Push provided a compete redesign of the user interface, which would allow their sales team to better navigate the resource library, which had grown to tens of thousands of pieces of digital content.

In order to handle the massive increase in data, some more advanced search and filtering capabilities were added, and the back end code was updated significantly. As the media library had grown so large, much of the work needed to be offloaded to background threads so that the user interface would always remain responsive.

In addition to redesigning the user interface of the iPad app, the CMS was also completely replaced with a much more capable system, which required all the communication code to be rewritten.

Below are some screenshots of the new interface design.

Hello! USA – v1.0

Hello! Destination Management is Orlando based company which offers destination and entertainment packages. Historically their sales team would go on-site for customer meetings carrying a collection of presentation materials. As their business expanded, it became more and more difficult to keep their sales team up to date, and the amount of materials they had to carry around became cumbersome.

To solve this problem, the created a two-part solution. A cloud based CMS, into which their staff could load their sales material, coupled with a custom iPad application that would keep itself synchronized with the CMS, and would be used to perform on-site presentations.

The objective was to create an easy to use sales tool that would allow their sales team to focus on selling.

I built this app based on designs provided by the design wizards at Push, who also implemented the CMS that the app would connect to in order to download content.

Below are a few of the product screenshots.

Felix & Felix Free, now in iTunes

A while back I had to decide between several cars and I was trying to figure out which one would save me the most money. When you’re comparing different cars, it’s not just about the monthly payment, you also have to factor in fuel efficiency, cost to insure, and so on.

One of the situations I ran into was that the car I was looking at was available in two configurations (VW gas vs. TDI), and the one with better gas mileage cost more (and used diesel, which is more expensive in my area). In my case it turned out that I didn’t drive enough per year to recoup the cost for the more efficient engine and the more expensive fuel.

It seemed to me that there should be an app to help people figure out this type of thing, but it turns out that there isn’t. (Or if there is, I couldn’t find it). I decided to make an iOS app to help other save money. It’s now in iTunes, and it’s called Felix the Fuel Cost Calculator.

The way Felix works is you enter how much you drive, and what fuel costs in your area. Then you start entering the cars that you are trying to decide between – entering monthly payment, fuel efficiency and insurance cost. If it’s a car you own that’s paid for, you can enter your average monthly maintenance. As you enter your cars, the program will calculate your monthly costs and allow you to see which car will save you the most money.
